Known affectionately as Butter-Butts, Yellow-rumped warblers, (Setophaga coronata), migrate south in the winter. These flocks of Florida snowbirds can be found in mangroves, scrub, forests, or your yard.
Their winter diet consists of fruit from shrubs such as wax myrtle, juniper berries, poison ivy, and poison oak as well as many seeds including those from goldenrod and beach grasses.
The yellow-rumped warbler ranges over most of North and Central America, breeding in the summer throughout most of the Rocky Mountains and along the far northern reaches of the continent. Come fall, it migrates in huge numbers, flying south to Florida and warm spots beyond. Not all yellow-rumps make the trip, however. Their ability to eat and digest certain wax-covered fruit allows them to spend the winter as far north as New England or even into Canada.
There are two distinct forms of the yellow-rumped warbler, the wax myrtle, predominant in the east, and Audubon's, which tends to hang in the Rockies and is rarely seen in the east. Myrtles, however, will winter along the Pacific Coast. They've also been known to roam as far as Alaska, Siberia and Europe.

This is our lovely Rhubarb, so affectionate bombarding us with licks and kisses when we arrived at our daughters house to take care of both her and Goose, my daughters other yorkie.

That is of course until she's let out into the garden before bedtime. Then it becomes a skill of wits attempting to get her in again.
Rhubarb likes to chase birds, bees, moths, come to think of it, basically anything that moves.
And boy did we have a task on our hands, getting her in that night.
Affectionately known to bird watchers as "butterbutts," yellow-rumped warblers are abundant migrants that pass through North America each spring and fall in most of Canada and in every state except Hawaii. Summer finds the gray and yellow birds in the evergreen forests of Canada, the mountainous western U.S. and the Northeast. They spend winters farther north than most warblers, in the southern U.S. as well as in Mexico and Central America. The yellow-rumped-warbler is a species that is familiar to just about every birder in North America. It has has four distinct forms, and compelling evidence that three of them are full species. It is not the first time these 5-inch-long, half-once birds have prompted debate among ornithologists. For most of the last century the yellow-rumped warbler was known to bird watchers as two species, the myrtle warbler of the East (and far north) and the Audubon's warbler of the West. However, in 1973, evidence the two species routinely hybridize in a narrow zone in western Canada led scientists to reclassify them as a single species. Although they are not the only birds to engage in similar behaviour, gannets are famous for "billing" or āmutual fencing.ā While it can happen any time both birds from a mated pair are at their nest site, it is quite routine when one bird returns to the nest after foraging for food or nesting material. The two gannets will face each other, often touching and calling. They then shake their heads side to side with their bills clacking together. They often bow, rub necks, and preen each otherās neck before taking up the more mundane activities of nesting in colonies, such as bickering and fighting with neighbors.
Affectionately known as the Beast, Dragonhunters (Hagenius brevistylus) are our largest dragonflies. We saw 4 perched yesterday, posing nicely, so a fun day at Gibbs Gardens/North GA.
I also found foty Band-winged meadowhawks, extremely rare in the Deep South. A mating pair!

Three visits to Mono Lake resulted in three very different images. The colours around the lake change all the time and Iād previously had a more purple looking image, a gorgeous blue image and today the light went a little flat with a patchy cloudy sky obscuring the sunshine.
I therefore opted to go for a longer exposure and to concentrate on one of the tufa rock formations out in the bay. Looking like a submarine, I loved the shapes in the outcrop of rock and the darkening clouds forming overhead.
It was interesting that, although Iād referred to the outcrop of rock as a submarine, right at the end of the shoot a local gentleman came up to me and referred to the rock as the Pirate Ship. After further discussion, it would seem that I was completely wrong and the outcrop has an official name and I therefore guess that I ought to name this image thus.
With the rain about to fall, this was one of the last images that I would capture at this truly amazing lake.

Sam Golden was affectionately known as Sammie G by the locals and by his customers alike. Sam, a likeable guy and a good businessman ran a very successful used car business in the small town of Goshen Connecticut, a short ride from the state's capital in Hartford. He had a reputation of giving fair prices on very good, well taken care of used cars, and people would come from miles away to shop for a car at Sam's. And Sam had an excellent connection for those good used cars with his twin brother Irwin who owned Golden's Ford across the border in Amenia, NY. And with that connection you might say that Sam got the cream of the crop of traded in cars from his brother's business. The arrangement that Sam had with his brother Irwin was for him to get the best trade in's from Irwin, and in return the profit on those cars once sold would be split fifty fifty between he and his brother. And, in spite of those bad post depression years of the early thirties, Sam was always able to keep his business in the black. Sam was once quoted as saying, "People always need a car. You can't go to work around here without a car. It's not like our little town has public transportation, and you need a car to go to work, and to put food on the table. And it's my job to help those people do that!" And Sam did that very thing.
In early 1934, Sam's brother sold a new 1934 Ford to Ezra and Margaret Chase. And the car they traded in was a 1930 Ford pictured in the middle of the above photo. Now, that doesn't seem so special until you hear the rest of the story. That new 1934 Ford purchased by Ezra and Margaret was subsequently stolen by a little known local gangster by the name of Clyde Barrow who had joined with Bonnie Parker, and used that car for a short spree of robberies, shootings, and murder. In the end both were shot to death in a police ambush in that very 1934 Ford.

Affectionately called, āThe Beanā and what has become synonymous with the Chicago experience is Anish Kapoorās Cloud Gate. Cloud Gate was created using computer technology to cut 168 massive stainless-steel plates into precise shapes which were then pieced together like a puzzle and welded shut.
These big rigs do this for the sheer fun of it, just because they can. :)

This image was a dream come true for me. You know how you see an encounter on a nature show and you say to yourself, what I wouldnāt give to see something like that out in the real world. Well, what I dreamed of seeing was a cheetah jumping on the roof of a jeep, and in the Masai Mara, it came true.
Cheetahs are caring, affectionate and dedicated mothers. They spend a long time caring for their cubs. Cubs typically stay with their mothers for one and a half to two years.
The cheetah originated over 4 million years ago. Thatās long before any of the other big cats of today. They used to be found in North America when they crossed the Bering land bridge from Asia to the Americas before becoming extinct.
The cheetah is the fastest land animal in the world, reaching speeds of up to 113km/h. They can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 3 seconds. When running, cheetahs use their tail to steer, like a rudder for a boat.Cheetahs are the only large cat that can turn in mid-air while sprinting.
Cheetahs do not roar like lions, however they do have a range of other meaningful vocalisations such as purring, growling and a variety of contact calls which resemble bird-like chirping sounds. -Wikipedia

Two male lions playfully greeting each other. Full frame, not cropped. I was actually too close but had no time to change cameras and this will have to do. At least one gets an idea of how massive that paw is.
There are people who speak ill of the fog of Milan. I don't know that of the other countries, but this in Milan is a great fog, nice, affectionate, friendly. Allow everything like a caress. And then it seems to me that the fog invites to intimacy, optimism, confidence.
Affectionately known as LOTI by those who travel with her, the MV Lord of the Isles, Righ nan Eilan in Gaelic, joined the fleet in 1989. She has been well utilised during her service, and is one of the most well travelled ferry in the current CalMac fleet. This is Olive as Janet so affectionately named her, she was the hardest working mum you could have ever wished for. After the sudden disappearance of the male, she battled on with raising the three Owlets, working literally day and night finding food for them (I know this, as the trail cam picked up every food delivery) I have no idea when she slept, she was constant !!
All this is said in past tense, as she is no longer alive. Last Monday (6th) she was hit by a vehicle we think. After placing her up by my hide, she managed to fly up into the hedge, we were hoping she was just a little bruised. After nearly week of no sightings of any kind we feared the worst, but on Saturday evening she was down on the floor just feet from the hide. I whisked her immediately to the vets, but with all the virus restrictions, I just had to leave her at the door. I was promised a call on Sunday, to give me an update. Well, the call came, but it wasn't good news, she had a broken shoulder and had to be put down. Heaven knows how she flew on that Monday.
Would I have done things differently in hindsight..... I don't know. I was thinking of the three Owlets she had. It was like she came to pass them into my care.

Mafuta is a rescued Serval based at Emdoneni Lodge. It is a cat rescue and aims to promote cat conservation. At present they have Servals, Cheetahs, African wildcats and Caracals. The animals they rescue cannot return to the wild as many were rescued as previous pets. However, they do breed and progeny are carefully reintroduced back to the wild.
Mafuta in particular was rescued as a pet.... his previous owner couldnt cope with him when he became a teenager. I remember him clearly when I visited 5 years ago. I took a low key image of him with his keeper. He's certainly very affectionate with keepers and guests.

A pair of Brown-headed Gull (Chroicocephalus brunnicephalus) was swimming in leisure while keeping a close distance. Here the ambience and the romantic posture of the birds created a delightful composition. The Bokeh here made them look further charming. Pics was taken from Purbasthali wetland, West Bengal, India.
